About the Business

The Mayor of Newham Council had a vision. To see the environmental maintenance services that Newham provides to members of the public improve and grow in its ability to deliver a more efficient and responsive service. Like most councils across the UK, recent years has seen a reduction in the amount of money Newham Council has received from the Government to spend on some of its services.

It was with this in mind that the idea of forming a private company to work for and be owned by Newham Council was developed. The philosophy would be for the company to work like they were in the private sector, but be owned by a public-sector company. A newly formed company meant proficient staff would be retained and retrained on how to work smarter in the positions they had held for years.

Public Realm Services (PRS Ltd) was born from this vision on 12 December 2016 and is being led by Managing Director John Wild. John is recognised for the delivery of exceptional services to the public, residents and the environment through his passion and enthusiasm to succeed. Whilst delivering excellent services he was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2014 New Year's Honours list for his public service.
